Westaustraliawine.com.au has been developed to provide a unique website for the exclusive promotion and sale of West Australian wine. Many of the wines offered are limited in production and are therefore unique products of special quality, developed from a select premium wine growing area of the world! Our objective is to create a forum for West Australian wines to become better known, and to provide assistance to all friends of wine in the form of information and an understanding of the wines produced in West Australia. As part of our contribution to the promotion of West Australian wine we source wines from all regions and provide a regular selection of updated varietal styles for sale. This list changes regularly and is carefully arranged to provide maximum interest in the wines produced from each of the regions in West Australia. To gain an appreciation of the distances encompassed by the 9 wine regions, the lower end of the Great Southern region is approximately 400km south of Perth around Albany and that is the furthest distance from Perth. The Perth Hills and Swan District extends 30-60km east and north of Perth so that it is possible to visit all the regions in the space of 5-7 days. However, to enjoy the journey, visitors should allow at least another 2-3 days, it will be worth the extra time. All wines offered for sale are rated using a star system for your guidance, and you will note that the maximum rating is 5 stars, with wines of 3 and 4 stars also listed. Wines that cannot achieve a 3 star rating are not offered for sale on this website. All wines must be of excellent quality to warrant selection for your interest. The total area under vine in the combined nine established wine regions of West Australia is now over 11,000ha or just over 27,300 acres. The total grape crush for the 2007 vintage was 65,000 tons. Area under vines 2,500ha (6175 acres) ![]() As the largest of the nine regions, the great Southern produces outstanding varietal styles from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with some excellent Pinot Noir from specific sites. Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are the three main white varieties produced. Riesling from the Great Southern regions and particularly from Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup sub regions produces outstanding examples of this delicate variety. Chardonnay is successful throughout the Great Southern regions and some excellent wines are consistently produced. |
